Good news for investors, not so much for tenants. Figures from Padmapper.com show that average rents in Toronto rose 14% year-over-year and 2.4% since July, which translates to $2,200 for a 1-bedroom apartment; 15.6% year after year and 0.7% month after month at $2,820 for a 2 bedroom apartment. Other cities that saw double-digit increases in both apartment sizes were Ottawa, Hamilton, Kitchener, Abbotsford and Windsor, which also experienced the largest month-to-month increase (5.6% for a room) but remained the cheapest rental market ($750 monthly) 1-room apartment rentals in Vancouver experienced moderate increases of 1.5% year-over-year ($2,050) and 2.2% in a 2-room apartment ($3,230). The largest monthly decrease was in Quebec (-5.5% to $860 for a room) although rents were still 6.2% higher than the previous year. Rents decreased month after month in 10 cities, including Barrie, Victoria, Ottawa and London. Winnipeg was the only one that remained intact since July.
